Yesterday’s “Tell Me personally Tuesday” problem became a day long discussion forward and backward with the author, making it a day late! The other day afternoon Angela wrote, “I’ve usually known that you shouldn’t buy furniture at Ashley’s or The Roomstore, but never really knew exactly why. It’s just assumed it’s bad hooker furniture, especially since they are so cheap (in price). How come the furniture so cheap? How come a standard sofa cost $2, 000 and a sofa at Ashley’s expense $500? ” There are many ways to breakdown the solution for this question, but the sum of the all of the little answers comes from one large answer- QUALITY. Large, low cost furniture shops are supposed to serve a specific cost but should not be confused with being a carrier of good quality, and sometimes even average top quality furnishings. The average person buys a new sofa once each and every seven to a decade, so it is safe to express that you would like a piece that may last that entire time without sagging, breaking or showing it’s age. The main part of a sofa is it’s frame. It should be made from kiln dried out hardwood to prevent warping or breaking. A lot of lesser top quality sofas is going to be framed in pine- any soft, inexpensive wood, or plywood. I’m a massive advocate of plywood for other furniture items, however upholstery frames should always be manufactured from hardwood. A good furniture piece can be an investment, like every other quality purchase that you expect to last. You shouldn’t be afraid to ask inquiries when you are interested in furniture on your own. Make sure that your salesperson takes the time to completely show you the construction of the product, not only the several color options they might offer.
